Ellie Maffett, Greece

I am gratefully stunned by the various ministry opportunities that have presented themselves over these first three years – 1-2-1s/1-2-2s, Bible teaching, training Bible study leaders, training in discipling, helping leading a discipleship programme, and helping develop safeguarding policies and procedures. As I head back to Greek class for two mornings a week, pray for wisdom in prioritising, and for trust in the Lord.

Emmanuel lectures in the Brussels Bible Institute this term, travelling there every other week; it is always an exciting and busy time. Pray that his teaching will be helpful to the students, and that the local church may also benefit from it. Pray also for safe travels and wisdom to know how to pace himself during that busy term.

Give thanks for God's gracious provision of funds to print three more commentaries in Amharic and for encouraging progress with developing a Brana Amharic Bible App. Please pray for the funding to enable us to complete translation of the Welwyn Commentary Series. Pray for our pastors’ seminar in Butajira, in October, for wisdom for the speakers, and for a lasting impact on those attending and their preaching ministries.

The UFM Scottish Thanksgiving Evening is scheduled for 2 October and the Scottish Prayer Day for Saturday 14 November. Pray that preparations go smoothly, that there will be good attendance, that these events may spur people on in their support of mission, and that through them some may even hear the call to mission service.

Pray for the administrative needs of the Mission Protestante Evangelique de France association and for wisdom in dealing with the needs of this growing team. We usually restart our twice-weekly Pipeline Children’s Club towards the end of September when the rainy season rains have reduced a little. Please pray for all who heard the gospel during our August outreach - that those with literature will read it and seeds sown will bear fruit. Pray for our youth group restarting again after summer, for more French teenagers to attend and integrate well. Pray also that many families will attend our Light Party at the end of October and hear the gospel.

Give thanks for a short family trip to neighbouring Austria and for Tamás' visit to our sending church in August. Please pray as school restarts for the girls and for Berta's health. We hold regular meetings with the pastor here to discuss and pray for various aspects of ministry. In October, local church ministries will include a series on Prayerfulness, leading up to Reformation day.

Please pray, as I am on home assignment from September to mid-October, that my speaking engagements would clearly share the Lord's work here in Mandritsara, inspiring prayer and involvement. Pray for the team and ongoing work in the ICU in my absence. Pray also for the raffia project, as five ladies from the brothel begin the course. Please pray for their salvation and lives changed for his glory.

Praise God for the 200 children who attended our Holiday Bible Clubs each day to learn about Jesus. Although we did not have a visiting team to assist this year, we praise God for providing strength and for those who came alongside to help. Please pray for teams in coming years to sustain these clubs and that God will open doors to admit children to the home again.
