Supporting pastors and students in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon with the supply of affordable theological books

Paul, in prison, longs for his books to read alongside the Scriptures. In Africa, many pastors long for the same, to help them preach and teach the people of God.

“When you come, bring … the books, and above all the parchments” (2 Tim 4:13)

Many African pastors and theology students have few books and those that they need can be difficult to obtain and often unaffordable. The mission of Africa Christian Textbooks (ACTS) is to address this need with a supply of quality, affordable Christian books. For 30 years, they have been supplying pastors and Bible students with books. ACTS is also helping to develop, and publish, African writers who can relate best to the African context.

ACTS sources theological and other serious Christian books, bibles, and study bibles from major publishers worldwide. They also publish books written by Africans and by people who know Africa well. We distribute these to the many book-hungry church leaders and students in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon through a network of 20 well-stocked bookshops based in theological seminaries and elsewhere.

About us

Since visiting the work in Nigeria in 2008 and 2010, we have felt a love for what ACTS is seeking to do and have developed a close relationship with some of the Nigerian ACTS management. We share their desire to provide Africans with sound teaching which equips them to preach, teach and write, thereby strengthening churches and spreading the gospel to the unreached.

We raised our three children in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, and now have two married daughters and memories of our late son. We also have three grandchildren. We both have been involved in the life of our congregation in Belfast for many years and our church family is very special to us.

Olwyn has a part time job and David has retired. So, the offer of a part time role for David with ACTs has provided a lovely opportunity to serve the Saviour. As Development Officer, David works with publishers and others, to optimise availability, value, and supply in response to the great need. We pray that our efforts will make a real difference.
