J and S
The country we are planning to work in has over 2,300 unreached people groups – more than five times any other country. Over 400 million people have never even heard the name of Jesus.
Only 0.1% in this area of the country call themselves Christian; fewer still are evangelicals and there are very few gospel-preaching churches. It is a heartland of Hinduism. The rise of Hindu nationalism in recent years has led to a significant increase in persecution, with some Christians facing physical attack, and churches set on fire. Despite this the gospel continues to grow, and new churches are being planted.
We believe that local churches and local believers are often the best able to reach the most unreached
Our desire is to come alongside and help build up the local churches through training and discipleship, and to encourage and support them in planting new churches. When I (‘J’) was a student, I went to visit a church in this country and it was there that my heart was first broken for the lost, and it is there that we would love to both go back and support/join in the great work we see the Lord already doing.
Serving fruitfully
Born in South Asia, ‘J’ moved to the Middle East at the age of 11. ‘S’ grew up in a neighbouring country with a similar language and culture, moving to the Middle East for ministry as an adult, where we met and later married while on the same ministry team. After eight years, we feel the Lord may be moving us into a new season. The immense need in South Asia and the ways the Lord has shaped our lives, have contributed to us desiring to serve the Lord in South Asia.
While part of us would love to jump on a plane today and go, we recognise that to serve the Lord most fruitfully in the decades to come, it would be wise for us to take some time out now for some further theology and training before going again on the mission field. In light of that, we will study for 2-3 years at a UK Bible college, starting September 2021.
