Around the World in 5 Days!

Week of Prayer: 6 – 10 October

As part of Jesus’ great prayer in John 17:18, we read: “As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” These words remind us that mission is not just a task – it is a sharing in the very heartbeat of God. This week, we embark on a journey – “Around the World in 5 Days” – praying for the Gospel to shine into every nation, people, and culture.

Throughout the week, we’ll journey in prayer to different parts of the world, lifting up churches, workers, unreached peoples and gospel opportunities. Let’s ask God to stir our hearts, open our eyes and even move our hands and feet, because the command to “go into all the world” still continues. So fasten your seatbelts, put your tray tables up and armrests down – we’re ready for take-off to go around the world in five days… through prayer!

“As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” (John 17:18)

Join us on Zoom each weekday to hear stories from UFM mission partners and to pray into these situations. There are two opportunities each day – 12:30–13:00 and 19:30–20:00 (the evening session repeats the first). By registering, you’ll receive a daily email introducing the prayer theme for the day, along with the Zoom links.

A global mindset

John’s Gospel is saturated with global vision. The word world appears about 80 times, revealing a God who so loves the world (John 3:16), and a Saviour who came not to condemn the world but to save it (John 3:17). As we pray, we are invited into the expansive scope of Jesus’ mission – a mission that reaches every corner of the globe.

In John 8:12, Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world.” Our prayer is that this light would pierce the darkness wherever it remains – whether in remote villages, global cities or our own neighbourhoods. Like the Samaritans in John 4:42, we long for people to say, “we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.”

John 11:52 doesn’t use the word world, but it is a wonderfully missional statement made even more remarkable because it comes from the mouth of an enemy of Jesus, Caiaphas. The high priest who was plotting His death says that Jesus came “not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.” The mission of God is a reconciling one—drawing distant peoples into one redeemed family.

Prayer is at the heart of all we do

If you don’t receive our regular prayer calendar, please get in touch and we can send you one. The prayer calendar is also available through the PrayerMate app – a great tool to organise your own prayer diary and subscribe to organisations such as UFM (praynow4.org/ufm). Why not give it a try and encourage others to do the same?
