Training Preachers : Growing Churches in Zambia

PIZ’s mission is to equip students with the skills needed to handle and teach the Bible faithfully.

Around 26% of Zambians are evangelical believers. While the church in Sub-Saharan Africa is growing rapidly, there remains a shortage of trained pastors capable of preaching expositional sermons. This has created an urgent need for biblical preaching, as various forms of false teaching have taken root in Zambia.

Proclamation Institute Zambia (PIZ) Bible College was established to address this need by equipping church ministers to teach the scriptures faithfully. With few trained Bible expositors available, PIZ seeks to strengthen the church by training and resourcing Bible teachers. The college follows the Cornhill London syllabus, adapted to the Zambian context. In addition to the Bible college, expository training is taken directly to church leaders in districts across Zambia. So far, 13 out of 116 districts have been reached. Each year, PIZ also hosts an expository preaching conference at the college.

Vision and Calling

The vision of Proclamation Institute Zambia is to strengthen and mature the Zambian church by grounding it in scripture. Many pastors in Zambia have no formal Bible college training. To address this, PIZ was established as an expository preaching college, designed to train students within their own cultural context. Graduates are then sent by their churches to plant and lead congregations across Zambia and beyond. PIZ also provides ongoing mentorship to these graduates, supporting them as they step into ministry. It is encouraging to see how God is using them to impact the church.

PIZ’s mission is to equip students with the skills needed to handle and teach the Bible faithfully. The curriculum includes: Bible Overview, Basic Christian Doctrine, Christian Ministry, The Church and its Mission, African Church History, Engaging with the World, Practical Expository Preaching, and Bible Handling.
