Daniel and Ellie Caballero
Northern Ireland has a high percentage of evangelicals, but the Republic of Ireland has one of the lowest evangelical populations in all of Europe – around 0.5 percent.
Ireland is one of the least evangelised nations in Europe, and has by far the lowest percentage of evangelical Christians in any English-speaking country. We serve in Cork, the second largest city in Ireland after Dublin. Although the Roman Catholic Church is still very strong in Ireland, its influence is decreasing every year. There has been a great increase in secularism in the country over the last decade. People are often willing to talk about religion and engage in gospel conversations.
Exciting things are happening in Cork!
A group of churches joined together to form “the Cork-Kerry project”, which includes seven Baptist churches united with an aim to “partner together so that churches are planted where there is not yet a gospel witness.” We pray and hope that the Lord may use the Cork-Kerry project to establish many churches in Ireland over the years to come.
We support the church planting efforts done by the Cork-Kerry project, particularly in the areas of preaching and teaching in our local church, Douglas Baptist Church.
A passion for the Word
Daniel is one of the main preachers/teachers at the church, together with the teaching elder, Bryce. Ellie helps in Sunday School teaching the children. We have (used to have before COVID) a bible study group in our house where Daniel teaches the Word of God.
We are also involved in book publishing for the Latin American context. Daniel is Peruvian and has a passion for developing good theological resources in Spanish aimed at pastors and bible teachers.
