Raising servant leaders in Kenya for a gospel-centred Africa

More than four out of five people in Kenya identify as Christian, yet many churches still lack leaders trained to teach the Bible faithfully. Only about five percent of pastors are formally trained.

Kenya is often described as a Christian nation, yet much of this Christianity can be nominal, with a lot of false teaching and cults, including one where more than 400 people were killed three years ago in the Shakahola Massacre.

Many believers have limited access to discipleship or consistent biblical teaching. In a context where people are searching for hope, direction, and encouragement, the Church has an important role in shaping communities. Without a strong grounding in Scripture, churches struggle to grow in maturity and lack clarity about the gospel.

iServe Africa

I will be serving with a Christian organisation called iServe Africa that seeks to raise servant leaders and faithful Bible teachers. My desire is to respond to the urgent need for faithful biblical teaching and discipleship in Kenya by training graduates and high school leavers. Many believers love Christ and desire to serve, yet opportunities for training and encouragement are limited.

My role at iServe Africa

The role at iServe Africa will allow me to support young people, fresh from college, passionate for ministry, helping them grow in teaching the Bible, discipling others, and serving their churches faithfully. By equipping them now, I hope to see the long-term strengthening of churches and leaders across Kenya and the wider African continent.

I will work with iserve Africa for a period of three years (as the Lord leads) after which I aim to either support an existing church plant in pastoral work and training, or plant a church with a focus on equipping leaders for multiplication through in-house training. The goal is to create environments where future ministry leaders are encouraged, equipped, and confident in serving God faithfully.

Summer 2027

I currently serve at St Andrew the Great in Cambridge, where I am involved in the 20s and 30s ministry, children’s work, and hospitality. Alongside this, I am training at the Cornhill Training Course on Thursdays and Fridays, developing skills in understanding and teaching the Bible faithfully.

Next summer, I will join iServe Africa as a Ministry Training Facilitator. In this role, I will coordinate training programmes, prepare teaching materials, support young people passionate for ministry, and mobilise prayer and partnerships.
