Serving with The Bible Talks, a campus ministry to university students in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
In a country where Christianity is generally professed but not practised faithfully as a result of syncretism and nominalism, The Bible Talks (TBT) seeks to equip the next generation with the good news of Jesus.
Many students come from religious backgrounds and some claim to be Christians, but when questioned further, they do not have a deep and personal relationship with Jesus.
With the presence of prosperity churches and cults (including African Traditional Religion), young people are at risk of never hearing the true gospel. Strategically placed on university campuses, TBT desires to share the life-changing message of Jesus to all who will listen and to establish young people in their knowledge and love for Christ.
We consider student ministry an important ministry as it aims to reach a people group who will be key players, even leaders, in our communities and societies in the future. The idea of discipling such a group is exciting because we hope to see the Lord raise up his people in all spheres of society and in every place and position. Hearing about the work of TBT was heart-warming and invigorating, which led us to consider joining their team. We are grateful to learn from TBT in order to continue growing in ministry.

TBT aims to reach a people group who will be key players in our communities in the future
Our student ministry aims to: 1) reach widely – involving lots of evangelism on campus, 2) invest deeply – focusing on discipleship, on a one-to-one basis or in a small group, and 3) multiply ministry – equipping our core students for gospel service where they are and for their future. Through this, we hope to see the next generation trained to serve wherever they end up.
Our ministry aims to reach widely, to invest deeply and to multiply ministry
After five years of theological training, we transitioned from Cape Town to Durban at the beginning of 2025. Originally from Zambia (Josh) and the UK (Sophie), we have a heart to share the love of Jesus with those around us and to see young Christians mature in God’s word. We are now Campus Workers for TBT, which involves preaching (Josh), one-to-one discipling of students, leading Bible studies and workshops as well as participating in on-campus evangelism and helping to organise three annual conferences. Apart from our TBT work, we are members of Christ Church Glenwood where we serve regularly and are enjoying a growing community of fellowship in the Lord.
