Serving as doctors at the Good News Hospital, Madagascar

Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world, with 70-80% of the population considered to be living below the poverty line. 1 in 5 children die before the age of five.

The Good News Hospital in Mandritsara is in a remote and poor area, with the majority of people having no access to basic amenities such as toilets, water and electricity. People often have to travel for days to reach the hospital and many have not heard the good news of the gospel.

The Good News Hospital was started 25 years ago as a small clinic as part of a vision to reach the people of Mandritsara with the Gospel. Through God’s provision, the hospital has grown and now has an outpatient department (2000 patients seen every month), a 57 bed hospital and operating theatres, which are the only operating facilities for 200km.

Vision and Calling

After finishing foundation training in Scotland we were prayerfully considering what to do next and had always been interested in medical mission. We saw on the Christian Medical Fellowship website that the Good News Hospital in Madagascar had a need for medical doctors and happened to know a doctor who had served there previously. We both already spoke some French, and felt God calling us to serve in Mandritsara. We are looking forward to being able to use our gifts to serve the people of Madagascar.

About us

We are two resident doctors from Scotland who will be working as part of the medical team and contributing to the on-call rota. We have been married for a year and when not in Madagascar we live in Edinburgh where we can usually be found going for a run or drinking coffee.
