A Bible church in the heart of the city
Tell us a little about Bordeaux
Bordeaux is France’s sixth largest city with a population of almost one million. It is about the size of Glasgow. Most of the gospel churches are to be found in the suburbs of the city, where it’s easier to find premises to meet in, and places to park cars. Meanwhile, nearly 250,000 people live within the city’s inner ring road; an area that needs more bible-believing congregations.
What is your church like?
Bordeaux Church (the international church in Bordeaux) meets very near the heart of the city centre and worships bilingually in English and in French. Our folk come from all over the world, but also from all over France, and we are united by the one thing we all share: the Lord Jesus Christ. Some of the congregation only stay for a few weeks, others stay for lifetime.
We’re committed to reach anyone we can with the gospel so that we see Jesus building his church in the heart of this great city.
Why did you choose Bordeaux?
Our desire is to have a Bible church in the heart of the city to glorify God, to strengthen Christians, and to reach anyone and everyone with the gospel of Christ.
The road to Bordeaux began when we went on honeymoon to Fuengirola in Southern Spain. It was there that the spiritual needs of continental Europe stopped being simply a known fact and became a personal challenge. We finally moved to Bordeaux in August 2005, sure of God’s guiding hand. Over the years, we have been involved in student outreach, and we helped to plant a French-speaking church. Since 2014, we’ve been working to equip and establish Bordeaux Church.
Before moving to France, Alan was a pastor in northeast Wales. We came to Bordeaux with our two children. Gwilym and his wife Beth are now working in a church in Norwich, England, while Catrin and her husband Froim are settled in Bordeaux and in Bordeaux Church.

Our desire is to have a Bible church in the heart of the city to glorify God, to strengthen Christians, and to reach anyone and everyone with the gospel of Christ.
