Proclaiming Christ in Bordeaux
Bordeaux has almost 1 million inhabitants but very few French-speaking evangelical churches. The need for a greater gospel witness is huge.
Bordeaux is full of all kinds of people – Catholics, Muslims and atheists, students and workers, single people and families. Most will never have heard the Gospel or met a Christian.
As this vibrant city busies itself with excellent food and wine, as its large student population works and plays hard, as the mayor plans for ambitious future growth, we cannot help but hear Jesus’ words: “The harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:38)
The need for a greater gospel witness in Bordeaux is huge.
We love Bordeaux and have strong links – Maxime studied at university here and knows many of the local churches well, and his Mum still lives here. Since we met in London, we hoped to move to France to serve the church here, and we are delighted to have ended up in Bordeaux!
We pray for new believers to join us in planting a church in the Bastide area, where we are seeking to serve our community in word and deed. We dream of eight new churches for the eight areas of Bordeaux, that all might hear Christ’s call.
As we pray for workers to join us, our focus is on evangelism in this pioneering stage of the church planting project. Maxime serves with the GBU (Christian Union) and loves to open the Bible with men of all faiths and none! Demelza is enjoying getting to know neighbours, school friends and local women and children. For both, a key priority is training; we are committed to passing on God’s glorious gospel to others who will guard it for future generations here in France. May He use us in our weakness!
