Andy and Anca Worsop

Karios Mission School, Romania

Andy is the coordinator and a teacher at Kairos Mission School which is training Romanians to be missionaries in a transcultural setting. The training is a residential course for one academic year, focusing on spiritual identity, culture & communication, and evangelism. In 2022 the Mission School was also involved in helping people fleeing from the war in nearby Ukraine.

Providing practical help to refugees who are fleeing from the war in Ukraine.

Kairos Mission School was made ready to receive refugees fleeing the war zone in February 2022. In the first few weeks we received 200 people per day. They came confused and scared, often having no plans beyond getting out of the country. Over the months we have provided meals, and found accommodation. Then when the refugees knew where they wanted to move on to next, we arranged their transport; sometimes organising accommodation along the way. Often these people had no one to host them once they reached their final destination, so we built up a network of hosts all over Europe and sometimes even beyond. Now we have about 30 people arriving per month.

We have not turned anyone away . We have housed cancer patients, disabled people, the elderly and infirm, and people with major mental health needs. The Lord supplied us with a small team of medical personnel and we have been able to set up a medical cabin.

We realised that this work was a long-term ministry: some refugees have been able to return to Ukraine, but others have decided to stay in Suceava until the war ends (and they can return home). Sites around the city are hosting about 100 people. Even once the war is over, these people will need to be in Romania for some time because their homes and cities have been destroyed.

Humanitarian aid

We are also sending out humanitarian aid to Ukraine with drivers willing to drive right up to the war zone; to where people are in real need. Read more about what it was like to respond to this crisis here.

Please pray for:

  • Kairos Mission School and the students.
  • peace and an end to the war in Ukraine.
  • the refugees who need to stay in Suceava long-term.
  • a Ukrainian pastor willing to stay and start a church in Romania.
  • Ukrainian speakers who can talk to the refugees, and share the love and hope we have in Jesus.
  • strength and rest for us as a family: Andy, Anna, Chloe and Emily.
