Ministry among Kurds in the UK and Middle East

The Kurds number some 25 million people across Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria (see map below). About 98% of them are Muslims (with a small Yezidi population), but there are now a few Kurdish-speaking churches. However, in the whole of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (5 million people), there are still probably only about 100 Kurds who gather regularly with other believers.

After 11 years in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, we have gained an in-depth knowledge of the language and culture. Now back in the UK, we rejoice at the many Kurdish people who have come to live in our city, mainly from Iraq & Syria.

We are excited to be part of a church in the most multicultural part of our city.

We have great opportunities now to travel back and visit believers, and also to minister to the Kurds here in the UK. Our team has set up a website called Hingvîn (honey), which makes Christian materials available in the Behdini dialect.

We are also passionate about training the local church in the UK to think missionally and to understand the worldview of ethnic groups like the Kurds. We are excited to be part of a church in the most multicultural part of our city, who are thinking through these issues with us.

Rosina has a great love for families and helping women through the trials of pregnancy and childbirth. Rob loves meeting men in their shops and sharing Christian cultural apologetics, whether online or over a glass of chai. Our support costs are actually much higher living in the south of England than they were in the Middle East. We have both got part-time jobs and we need to widen our support base for our Kurdish ministry.
